New York State Association of Neuropsychology (NYSAN) presents a live webinar with Linda S. LaMarca, Ph.D., ABPP
Autism has historically been conceptualized and studied primarily in males, contributing to the under recognition and delayed diagnosis of many girls and women. This presentation will review current evidence regarding sex differences in autism, with particular emphasis on findings that have practical implications for neuropsychological assessment. Topics will include the emerging literature on the female autism phenotype, social camouflaging, and factors that contribute to delayed or missed diagnosis. Current evidence regarding diagnostic challenges, assessment considerations, and limitations of the existing literature will be discussed. Participants will leave with practical, evidence-informed strategies for improving the recognition and evaluation of autism in females across the lifespan.
