New York State Association of Neuropsychology (NYSAN) presents a live webinar with Sergiy Sievtsoy, MS, Kenneth Podell P.D., ABN, & Elkhonon Goldberg, Ph.D., ABPP-CN
The invasion of Ukraine in 2022 created a challenge to clinical neuropsychology in the country. Already a young and fledgling clinical field, Neuropsychology faced unprecedented challenges in the delivery of clinical services, both assessment and cognitive rehabilitation, under the pressure of war. This presentation focus on the collaboration of “East and West” in creating neuropsychological assessment and cognitive rehabilitation programs for military personnel during wartime as well as creating an educational foundation for teaching neuropsychology throughout Ukraine.
Sergiy Sievtsov is a clinical neuropsychologist and The Director of Elkhonon Goldberg Ukrainian Institute of Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, where he developed a clinic specializing in the neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation of brain injured individuals (mainly military) after the invasion of Russia in 2022. He has relied upon ingenuity and creativity in developing assessment tools and robust rehabilitation techniques in treating war-related traumatic brain injury. Sergiy Sievtsov is also passionate about training the next generation of Ukrainian neuropsychologists with over 100 current students. He supervises a team of four neuropsychologists in Odesa, who have treated 200 military patients with traumatic brain injuries and psychological trauma over the past year.
Kenneth Podell, PhD, ABN is the John M. O’Quinn Centennial Clinical Academic Scholar in Concussion Research and Care and Director of The Houston Methodist Concussion Center and Neuropsychology section, the Stanley H. Appel Dept. of Neurology, Houston Methodist. Dr. Podell is an Associate Professor in Neurology at Weill-Cornell Medical College, Institute of Academic Medicine, Houston Methodist, and Texas A&M College of Medicine. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Houston. Dr. Podell was one of the original developers/designers of the Immediate Post-Concussion and Cognitive Assessment software. He has served as a sports neuropsychological consultant to numerous collegiate, semi-professional and professional teams, international schools and clinics. His research has spanned across many areas of neuropsychology and has included executive control and frontal lobe functions, dementia, epilepsy, forensics and traumatic brain injury.
Elkhonon Goldberg, PhD, ABPP-CN is an author, scientist, educator, and clinician, internationally renowned for his clinical work, research, writings and teaching in neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. Dr. Goldberg is the Director of Luria Neuroscience Institute. A student and close associate of the great neuropsychologist Alexandr Luria, Dr. Goldberg has continued and advanced his scientific and clinical tradition.
