Examining the historical origins of our methodology provides us with a theoretical framework to critically examine our current work while providing us with a basis to move on to the future.

This lecture will review the evolution of neuropsychological assessment from its 19th Century roots through its use in modern-day clinical and research settings. Emphasis will be placed on how many of the neuropsychological tests, used in current day practice were developed initially as part of the intelligence testing movement, clinical demands arising from World Wars I & II, and the development of clinical psychology and neuropsychology as fields of professional practice.
